New Year’s drink with Pomegranate and tsipouro
A festive drink to ring in the New Year with pomegranate for luck. Serve cold in a frozen jug with small shot glasses on the side. Leave a bowl of pomegranate seeds for guests to add to their glass.
I use fresh pomegranate juice. You can easily make it at home by cutting the pomegranate in half and using the orange juicer. If you want to save some time, you can get ready pomegranate juice. Make sure it has no additives like sugar since the recipe already contains syrup.
You can use tsipouro without anise, raki or grappa. It’s best if it has been in the freezer already. You’ll need a little added sugar with a simple syrup that you can use to sweeten the drink. It’s important that you use syrup, because plain sugar won’t melt properly.
Recipe for a glass / for a jug
- 2 tbsp / 300 ml pomegranate juice
- 2 tbsp / 300 ml tsipouro or raki
- 1 tsp / 50 ml sugar syrup
Mix all the ingredients well with ice, drain and serve.
For the sugar syrup, stir in a saucepan equal amounts of sugar and water. Stir over a low heat until the sugar melts. Raise the heat and allow to simmer for 3-4 minutes. Keep in the fridge as soon as it cools.
